The initial step to Cloud adoption is the identification and economic valuation of possible business cases and the analysis of the technical and organizational setting at Telekom’s respective business units and at their customers. Based on this preparatory work, the most interesting internal use cases or external products are defined, designed and implemented prototypically as demonstrators. In course of the overall project, consisting of a series of such business cases, the gained insight and experience are consolidated to generically reusable methods and patterns for Cloud Service Engineering.

The demonstrator for the first business case that has been intensively addressed in Cloud Enabling made it to the T-Systems booth at the CeBIT 2010 fair. It depicts the vision of Landscapes as a Service (LaaS), where complete landscapes of IT infrastructure can be provided in a coordinated fashion on demand. For the provisioning of SAP landscapes technology of the external partner Fluid Operations GmbH (Walldorf) has been used. The video below shows the resulting self-service Web portal in which end customers can configure their individual landscapes and initiate immediate provisioning.

The Cloud Enabling project that has an initial duration of two years is characterized by close cooperation of the involved partners. As an example, the Zimory Enterprise Cloud Plattform has been installed at FZI and is operated as a project internal experimentation testbed for all partners.
