Background:

In several industries, we have seen the introduction of modern IT innovations as digitalization is progressing. Therefore, investigating employees’ satisfaction with the current state of digitalization in organizations is of major importance. This is not only because it co-determines the success of the further introduction of modern IT innovations but also because it severely impacts employees’ overall job satisfaction. However, it is currently unclear what factors employees associate with a state of digitalization and satisfied they are with these factors. To develop an understanding of what drives employees’ satisfaction with a state of digitalization, special attention should be paid to the healthcare context. This is because the healthcare sector has recently faced several changes in digitalization during COVID-19. It is highly likely that this had an impact on employees’ satisfaction with the current state of digitalization in healthcare. Still, to measure this impact, employees’ satisfaction with the current state of digitalization has to be first understood, conceptualized, and operationalized.

Objective(s):

- Identify factors of digitalization that lead to satisfaction or dissatisfaction

- Identify aspects of satisfaction with a state of digitalization in an organization (e.g., the IT itself, how IT is used to support processes, the degree to which IT enables better service provision such as patient care, …)

- Determine which factors employees in healthcare perceive as most visible or most critical

Note: This is an umbrella topic. The overall goal, context, and direction of the thesis are defined in the first kickoff meeting.
