Kurzfassung
Ontologies serve as a means for establishing a conceptually concise basis for communicating knowledge for many purposes. They are a popular research topic in Artificial Intelligence, e.g. knowledge engineering, natural language processing, intelligent information integration and multi-agent systems. Recently, ontologies are also applied outside the AI world, e.g. in the World Wide Web community that try to represent machine-processable data on the web using ontologies and formal metadata.
